The recommendation starts from the joint: material, thickness, filler need, cycle volume. A single-process shop has inventory pressure that steers the answer before the joint is even examined; a four-process account does not carry the same pressure and can name the process that actually fits.
A physical weld on the customer's own material is the only test that survives contact with production. Paper specs and video demos rarely do. Sample-first evaluation is how a wrong-tool recommendation gets caught before the crate ever ships.

If the joint suits pulse arc, the laser welder does not appear on the quote for margin reasons. Cross-line steering breaks the process-first commitment; it stays off the account.
